Through The Greenhouse Door
16×20 Oil painting on cradled gessoboard, painted on location at Kollar Nursery in Pylesville, MD. Currently FRAMED but also available unframed with edges painted black. Satin varnished for depth and protection.
The Kollar family of Kollar Nursery was kind enough to let me paint on their beautiful property, and even during work hours it couldn't be a more peaceful place. The Kollars grew this native plant paradise from scratch, starting with this solar greenhouse that just turned 40. You couldn't find better folks to help you with your garden.
I really appreciate how thoughtfully designed this greenhouse is. The house is built partially into the ground for insulation and the opposing roof of glass panels lets the light in. The concrete floors have grown over with moss. Plants burst out of every nook and cranny. The pond boasts a waterfall, a mature water lily, and frogs. The place practically screams "tranquility". A lot of hard work went into shaping this kind of beauty in the world, and I tried to reflect that in my painting.
This piece belongs with a plant lover, a green steward. Maybe your Pothos would appreciate something nice to look at, or maybe you know a gardener who would.
