Low River
9×12 oil on linen panel, painted on location at Susquehanna State Park in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Currently unframed.
Once or twice a year when the weather is especially dry, the river gets real low and we get a chance to see the things that are usually hidden. Wildly eroded boulders, stones perfectly smoothed for skipping, river grasses who rarely breathe above water. The rushing river turns into a maze of little streams full of darting minnows. It's a special, rugged beauty. I love this river in all her seasons and I would paint here every day if I could.
