Red Roses, Red Door
8×10 oil on cradled gessoboard, painted on location at the Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Darlington, Maryland. Currently UNFRAMED with edges painted black but also available framed. Satin varnished for depth and protection.
A church steward was kind enough to give us a tour of the inside of this beautiful 1876 church, with local green soapstone construction, slate roofing and incredible woodwork on the inside. The red door paired with the roses in bloom was striking to me and I was moved to paint. The steward told me there was some debate over the door’s new color being too vibrant. “Just like us!”
